Our first running blades

Less than a month after the launch of our ASBL, we are proud and moved to announce that our first project is already a reality: the purchase of running blades from the brand Hopper.

Hopper is an innovative company developing mobility solutions to make sport accessible to all amputees. An inspiring partner that shares our values of inclusion and of pushing one's limits. On 17 September, our meeting with the Hopper team sealed a partnership and allowed us to acquire four blades.

In Belgium, sports prostheses are neither covered nor reimbursed. The system pays for part of everyday equipment, but not what makes it possible to run, jump and move for the joy of it. Yet sport is no luxury: it is essential for staying in physical shape, preserving mental balance, regaining self-confidence and taking one's place in social life.

Without coverage, this equipment, which costs several thousand euros, remains out of reach for most amputees. To better understand what is reimbursed and what is not, see our reimbursement guide.

Faced with this gap, Un pas de plus acts where reimbursement falls short. Our association supports amputees through their paperwork, funds adapted equipment and offers the human support that institutions too often forget.

Our association exists only thanks to the generosity of our donors. With no public subsidies and no institutional funding, every euro donated is turned directly into concrete help.

A huge thank you to our first donors, and in particular to one very generous supporter, who will recognise themselves. Thanks to you, this project came to life so quickly.

These blades are only a beginning. Several priority initiatives are already being prepared:

• funding a manual indoor wheelchair, so that an older person regains independence at home;
• a waterproof mechanical prosthesis, to regain the dignity of showering standing up;
• personalised administrative support, to find a way through the maze of procedures;
• psychological and moral support, to get through the ordeals of rehabilitation.
